Why Simplicity?

Isn’t life funny? 3 years ago, I started a blog called “When Caterpillars Fly” that ironically had nothing to do with bugs (go figure) but was supposed to primarily about personal development, growth and developing my child into the adult she’s going to be. But it really went a different direction. I have written more and more about finding joy in simplicity and a simple lifestyle. It seems like it was time for my blog to get a name change to more accurately reflect the style of writing that you, my readers, have become accustomed to!

And I am so super excited to start bringing you new content that can enrich and simplify.

So why simplicity? I think I will let the definition of this incredible word speak for itself….

  • The state, quality, or an instance of being simple.
  • Freedom from complexity, intricacy, or division into parts: an organism of great simplicity.
  • Absence of luxury, pretentiousness, ornament, etc.; plainness: a life of simplicity.
  • Freedom from deceit or guile; sincerity; artlessness; naturalness

And if you look up synonyms of simplicity you find words like clarity, integrity, modesty, purity, unity, clearness, ingenuousness, innocence, harmony, naturalness, primitiveness, straightforwardness, and cleanliness.

This is what my life is about now! This reconnecting with myself, with nature, with simplicity. No strings attached. No “keeping up with the Joneses.” Shedding all need for “perfection” and embracing the uniqueness of life. Finding your “niche” and not letting anyone else tell you how you should live.

Now that’s living!

And so it is my hope and prayer that this blog will encourage you in your own path to simplicity. I hope that you will take my words, my pictures, my experiences and apply them to your own journey towards simplicity. I hope that you will feel inspired and free to let go of what the internet tells you is expected of you and find your own core, your own way.

There will be a variety of topics that I talk about here, but I will do my best to keep them to the main goal – simplicity. Some of the topics will include:

  • Simplifying Your Home
This will focus on bringing peace and joy to your home by carefully considering what comes into your home. Sometimes this will mean decluttering, organization, decoration or a cleaning routine

  • Connecting With Nature
This form of simplicity requires grounding yourself in nature in some way. Nature is so healing and uplifting and reminds us of what is really important. Its also crucial to childhood development.
  • Healthy Living
Because its hard to be your best self if you aren’t healthy! My focus will be on more whole foods, less supplements and less medication. Our bodies are incredible and are designed to function perfectly without help. Lets work on getting back to that.
  • Gentle/Peaceful/Respectful/Biological Parenting
Being a MAMA is a huge part of my life! I wouldn’t be who I am without the inspiration of my daughter. I have found, in the course of parenting that gentle/peaceful/respectful and biological parenting often (but not always) minimizes the battles and struggles that many people face. Simply working to co-exist with my child in the way she was made, instead of forming her into something else, takes a lot of stress out of my life.
  • Reducing Waste/Natural Home
This doesn’t strictly fall in line with simplicity but it ties into respecting nature, by being responsible with our purchases – and waste. In addition, using natural products in the home reduce the toxins in your home.
  • Real Food Recipes
Ok, so maybe whole food meals cooking from scratch is not so simple, but it is important! For our health, for our home, for our families. I promise to keep the meals SIMPLE. In my own home, I only cook meals with few ingredients and I use every kitchen hack that I can. I will be sharing ways for you to cut down on mealtimes and still put a healthy and delicious dinner on the table!
  • Product Reviews
Finally, I will be sharing some of my favorite products with you. This could be a kitchen device, a book or an open ended toy for your child. I am a huge advocate of buying second hand when possible or simply seeing if something else you own already can serve a double function, so I will not be reviewing every product under the sun, only things I truly feel can add to the simplicity of your life. Promise!

Thank you for being one of my incredible readers! If something I post inspires you, I would be honored if you would share the post or even my blog! My goal is to spread this lifestyle of simplicity to everyone as so many people are burdened under the stress of “modern day living.” Lets change that!

And if you have a concern or problem you are struggling to work through, I’d love to help you out with it! Just send me an email or comment on one of my blog/social media posts and I’ll see what I can do! I’m not perfect but I’m pretty good at figuring things out and researching!

Until next time! <3
